22–Days

An excursion from Gobi toward west to Altai range and Khangai Nuruu with the hot springs of central Mongolia.

• Day 1: Arrival
  Departure from Berlin/Tegel to Ulaanbaatar/Chinggis Khan
• Day 2: Ulaanbaatar
  Arrival at Ulaanbaatar/Chinggis Khan Airport and transfer to the yurt (Ger) camp, after a basic course you can relax and take a shower. In the afternoon we visit the Gandan monastery and Bogd Khan (last empire of Mongolia) museum. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
• Day 3: Mutterfelsen Eedsh Khad, Berg Baga Gadsriin Tschuluu
  Today we drive toward Baga Gazriin Chuluu Mountains, which arises pictorially out of the flat landscapes. Overnight at a camp encircled by rough rocks.
• Day 4: Monastery Ongiin Khiid
  In the morning visitation of monastery ruins located in a canyon of a central mountain range, continuation of our trip in south direction to the famous riparian ruins of Ongiin Khiid Monastery. Overnight at the camp.
• Day 5: "Flaming Cliffs" by Bayanzag
  Continuation of our trip in south direction to Bayanzag (rich in saxaul), famous for archaeological find spots of fossils, known as "Flaming Cliffs", visitation of a camel grower family is optional, overnight at the camp.
• Day 6: Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park
  Continuation of our journey to Gobi desert, we visit the impressive vulture canyon "Yoliin Am" in the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park, where we hike along the spectacular lump of rocks. Furthermore we continue our trip toward Khongoryn Els, one of the largest dune of Mongolia, on the way overnight in tent.
• Day 7: Dune Khongori Els
  Today we arrive at Khongori Els. You could take the possibility to ride a camel and gain experiences about the workaday life of a camel grower families.
• Day 8: Village Bogd
  We drive directly in north direction over the Altan Amin Davaa Pass and admire the beauteousness of the different mountain tops of Arz Bogd range, such as Ukhant Yagaan Uul and Ikh Bayan Uul. On the way shopping in the village Bogd, overnight in tent in west direction.
• Day 9: Villages Bayanlig and Bayan-Gobi
  Today we drive in west direction. Moreover we visit the villages Gobi Bayanlig and Bayan-Gobi and overnight in tent close to Bayan Gobi.
• Day 10: Village Chandmani
  Continuation of our trip to Chandmani, a part of the province Gobi-Altai, we cross the stoniness landscape and overnight in tent in north-west direction.
• Day 11: Provincial town Altai
  Arrival at the provincial town Altai, visitation of the provincial museum and overnight close to the city.
• Day 12: Lake Dörgen Nuur
  In the morning we drive to the largest dune of Mongolia, known as Mongol Els. Tour across the gorgeous rocky desert, maybe we will spot some antelopes if luck is on our side.
• Day 13: Village Chandmani and Tsenkher Canyon
  Drive toward provincial town Khovd, on the way we visit the village Chandmani, which is famous for overtone singer. Furthermore sightseeing of Tsenkher canyon and the international known cave-paintings.
• Day 14: Provincial town Khovd
  Today we drive along the beautiful lake Tolbo to a further provincial town, called Khovd. In this place we visit the provincial museum and the bazaar. After short breaks sightseeing around the temple complex and overnight in tent.
• Day 15: Hydro-electric power station Dörgön
  Continuation of our trip to the hydro-electric power station Dörgön, furthermore you experience something about environmental protection of Mongolia. Finally overnight in tent surrounded by the picturesque countryside.
• Day 16: Provincial town Uliastai
  In the morning arrival at the provincial town Uliastai, known for historical importance in Mandshu period, visitation of the provincial museum and overnight at a hotel.
• Day 17: Tosontsengel
  Today we visit the village Tosontsengel, where the coldest point of Mongolia is located. Overnigh at the riparian camp.
• Day 18: Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur
  Tour along the canyon of Tschuluut River to Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, which is pictorially embedded into the volcanic landscape. Hitting tour to the volcanic crater Khorgo and overnight at the yurt camp
• Day 19: Spring Tsenkher
  Next morning trip to the northern provincial town Tsetserleg (flower garden), lunch at café established by English missionaries, afterward we continue our trip toward west, until we reach the hot spring Tsenkher, in the evening bathing in the springs.
• Day 20: Karakorum
  In the morning tour to Karakorum, the historical capital city of Mongolia gives us the opportunity of visiting the monastery Erdene Zuu (World Heritage Site) and archaeological excavation. Overnight at the camp.
• Day 21: Ulaanbaatar
  Return to Ulaanbaatar, where you can discover the city by yourself. Farewell dinner with folklore and overnight at a hotel.
• Day 22: Departure
  In the Morning transfer to the airport and departure to Europe.
